Automatic sync comes with Regular (2 accounts, every 30 minutes) and Pro (up to 5 accounts, every minute, plus Sync now). On Starter you can still bring trades in with a file — see Import files.
SniperJournal Sync is a small Expert Advisor (EA) that runs inside your own MT5 terminal. It reads every trade you have closed on that account and sends it to your journal, then sends each new trade a few seconds after you close it, while the terminal is open. It never places or changes a trade, and your broker password never leaves your computer.
Takes about five minutes. Works with any broker, live or demo.
Don't want to install anything? Pick Connect with your login · nothing to install instead — same panel, no download, and it keeps syncing while your PC is off. Steps on Quick connect MetaTrader. The add-on below is the choice when you'd rather your broker password never leaves your computer.
1. Get your sync key
- In SniperJournal open Accounts (
/app/accounts) and click Connect MetaTrader, then Sync add-on (runs in your terminal). - Your sync key is shown at the top. Click Copy.
- Treat it like a password — anyone with the key can push trades into your journal. If it ever leaks, click Regenerate and paste the new key into the EA.
2. Download the add-on
On the same page, download SniperJournalSync.mq5.
3. Put it in MetaTrader
- In MT5: File → Open Data Folder.
- Open the
MQL5folder, thenExperts, and dropSniperJournalSync.mq5in there. - Back in MT5, in the Navigator panel (Ctrl+N) right-click Expert Advisors → Refresh.
SniperJournalSyncappears in the list.
On a Mac? Same steps. File → Open Data Folder opens Finder in the right place (it's buried under Library/Application Support, so always use that menu item rather than hunting for it) — drop the file into MQL5/Experts there. The Mac version of MT5 runs EAs and WebRequest exactly like Windows. If it won't let you drop the file, right-click the Experts folder → Paste.
Only on your phone? The MT5 phone app can't run add-ons. Use Quick connect instead — you type your login, investor password and server on the Accounts page and we sync from the cloud. Nothing to install, works from the phone.
4. Allow the connection (the step most people miss)
- Tools → Options → Expert Advisors.
- Tick Allow algorithmic trading.
- Tick Allow WebRequest for listed URL.
- In the box underneath, add exactly: ``
https://journal.marksfxacademy.com`Just the site address — no/api/...` on the end, no trailing slash. - Click OK.
Without this step the EA runs but can't talk to SniperJournal. You'll see error 4014 in the Experts tab.
5. Attach it to a chart and paste your key
- Drag SniperJournalSync from Navigator onto any chart (which chart doesn't matter).
- In the window that opens go to the Inputs tab.
- Paste your sync key into ApiKey. Leave ApiUrl as it is.
- Click OK.
- Make sure the Algo Trading button in the toolbar is green/on.
6. Check it worked
Open the Toolbox (Ctrl+T) → Experts tab. Within about 20 seconds you should see:
SniperJournal Sync started. First push in about 20 seconds...
SniperJournal: pushed 143 closed trades (143 new).
Refresh Accounts in SniperJournal — your account is now in the list with status ok and a last-sync time. Your whole history is in; from here on each trade you close shows up in your journal within seconds (an open journal tab updates by itself).
Keeping it synced
The EA only runs while MT5 is open. Close the terminal and syncing pauses; open it again and the EA catches up on everything you closed in between — nothing is lost. If you want trades to arrive while your PC is off, run MT5 on a VPS (most brokers offer one, or MT5's own Tools → Options → VPS).
Set it up before November 2026? Your copy sends trades every 15 minutes. Download SniperJournalSync.mq5 again (step 2), drop it into MQL5/Experts and replace the old file. In Navigator right-click SniperJournalSync → Modify, press Compile (F7) in MetaEditor and close it. The EA on your chart reloads by itself with your key still in place, and the Experts tab shows "SniperJournal Sync 1.10 started". From then on trades arrive within seconds.
