Quick connect MetaTrader (login + password, nothing to install)

Automatic sync comes with Regular (2 accounts, every 30 minutes) and Pro (up to 5 accounts, every minute, plus Sync now). On Starter you can still bring trades in with a file — see Import files.

Quick connect is the no-install way to sync MT4 or MT5: you give SniperJournal the same login, password and server you use in MetaTrader, we connect to your broker from the cloud, pull your closed trades and sync new ones automatically (every 30 minutes on Regular, every minute on Pro) — even when your computer and your terminal are off. Nothing to download, install or update. If you'd rather nothing leave your PC, use the MT5 / MT4 sync add-on instead; both end up in the same journal.

Takes about two minutes, plus a couple of minutes for the first sync.

What you need

  • Login — your account number (the one you type into MetaTrader).
  • Password — your investor (read-only) password is best: it can see history but can never trade. Your main password works too. Ask your broker or look in the account email they sent you; on most brokers you can set an investor password under Change password in the terminal.
  • Server — the exact name shown in MetaTrader under File → Login to Trade Account, for example ICMarketsSC-MT5 or FTMO-Server. Copy it character for character; ICMarkets-Live05 and ICMarketsSC-Live05 are different servers.
  • Whether it's MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5.

Steps

  1. In SniperJournal open Accounts (/app/accounts) and click Connect MetaTrader.
  2. Connect with your login · nothing to install is selected at the top of the panel. (The other button, Sync add-on (needs MetaTrader open on your computer), is the install-it-yourself route.)
  3. Choose the platform (MT5 or MT4), give the account a name (for example FTMO 100k), then type Login, Password and Server.
  4. Click Connect account. You'll see Connected. First sync starts in about a minute.
  5. In the account list the new row shows connecting with Connecting to your broker. First sync usually takes 1–3 minutes. Give it a few minutes and refresh the page (or press Sync now on Pro): status flips to ok with a trade count and a last-sync time.

From then on the account syncs by itself, every 30 minutes on Regular or every minute on Pro (plus any time you press Sync now on Pro). New closed trades arrive on the next sync.

What comes in

  • The first sync pulls the last 12 months of closed trades. Need older history? Export a statement for the older period and import it into the same account — duplicates are skipped.
  • Every later sync re-checks the last 14 days, so a trade closed while a sync was running still arrives next time.
  • Partial closes and scale-ins are paired into one trade per position, the same way the add-on does it.

Security

Your login, password and server are encrypted (AES-256) before they are stored and are never sent back to the browser. With an investor password the connection physically cannot place, modify or close a trade. Remove the account on Accounts and the broker connection is deleted too.

Heads-up: removing an account also removes its trades from SniperJournal (you're asked to confirm). Any notes, tags or playbooks on those trades go with them — if you only changed your password, see below before removing.

Changed your MetaTrader password?

The stored login stops working and the account shows error with the broker's message. Fix: on Accounts, Remove the account, then Connect MetaTrader → Connect with your login again with the current password. The reconnect pulls the last 12 months back in. If you have a lot of journaled trades on that account, message Mark before removing it.
